The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child have their first orthodontic examination by age 7. Screening children early for orthodontic problems allows for the identification of problems that are easier treated at a younger age. Taking advantage of a child's growth , we can correct severe bite problems and reduce the need to remove permanent teeth for crowding. This is best accomplished when some "baby" teeth are still present. Most children begin orthodontic treatment once all or most of the baby teeth fall out, but it is highly recommended to have an evaluation sooner if possible.
